On March 22, 2014 the Filipino Ugnayan Student Organization will be hosting their annual Pilipino Culture Night (PCN). PCN is a student-written and student-run play that illustrates the Filipino culture.
This year’s PCN is entitled (Don’t) Let Go.
(Don’t) Let Go tells the story of 20 year old Leo De La Vega and his story of moving to the United States from the Philippines in order to further his education at an elite university. Although he comes from a very poor family, his parents, Marielle and Marc De La Vega, push him to attend, especially because he has received a full scholarship. After arriving at the university, he meets Jordan Castillo, a girl who at first, gives him the cold shoulder. However, after a while, the two end up being put together for a group project for their immigration class, and from there, their relationship grows. As they become closer friends, they each reveal to one another, some of the struggles that they deal with on a daily basis. One of these includes Jordan’s struggle with her alcoholic and abusive father. As we see Jordan opening up more and more to Leo, Leo’s parents begin to disclose information about a major secret that they have been keeping from him. Leo doesn’t know what to do after finding about this secret, and he eventually comes to the conclusion that there is only one way to escape his reality.
